Research Statement

My research and theoretical work focus on the history of writers and writing as cultural and professional phenomena. Other scholarly interests include history of writing; pedagogies, including those associated with rhetorical theories and with composition studies; authorship; theories of social class distinctions; literacy studies; and eighteenth-century British literature. I am currently also engaged in research and teaching about clinical doctor/patient relationships and conduct a writing group for doctors and staff in the University Health Sciences Center.
