"The study of the humanities illuminates the world around us. Through the humanities, we see more clearly, comprehend more fully and feel more deeply. This is why the humanities constitute the cornerstone of higher education. Our college strives to offer the most innovative curricula, infused by faculty research. Our students are taught to comprehend systems and patterns, to think analytically and responsibly in order to embrace the complex, interwoven challenges of citizenship.
Through healthy questioning and attempts at inclusion and connection, we offer approaches that are fundamentally democratic. Students of the humanities learn to think critically, express themselves effectively, understand the nuances of cultural issues, interpret human experience, and appreciate the power of words and ideas. In doing so, they broaden their historical, ethical, social and international perspectives and enhance themselves intellectually and creatively. Our goal is excellence in all of our activities. Our ever-increasing scholarly prominence and the continuing satisfaction of our students are evidence we are meeting this goal. We invite you to illuminate your world as you explore the humanities."
Robert Newman,
Dean of The College of Humanities, Associate Vice President for Interdisciplinary Studies, and Professor of English
