Convocation

College of Humanities Convocation

Friday, May 7, 2010 ~ 11:15 A.M.

(Graduates arrive at 10:45 A.M.)

Immediately following the University Commencement, the College of Humanities Convocation ceremony will recognize Baccalaureate, Master's and Doctoral Degree Candidates for their degrees and honors earned. Diploma covers are presented at this time to each graduate. All graduates are required to wear the appropriate cap and gown during the ceremony. Graduates should plan to arrive at the Jon M. Huntsman Center at 10:45 a.m. The procession begins promptly at 11:15 a.m.

All candidates should go directly to their seats as designated below. Students will not march in a procession. Please bring a pen or pencil to print your name on the name card as you want it read and pronounced, if necessary. Both sides of the card must be completely filled out. The reverse side of the card is used by the photographer. Candidates and guests are requested to remain seated until the entire convocation program is complete.

Baccalaureate Degree Candidates: Please go directly to your seats in the Huntsman Center as designated below and as directed by the ushers. Graduates should be in their seats no later than 11:00 a.m.

Candidates graduating from the Department of Communication will be seated in Sections B and C; enter by Portal 3.

Candidates graduating from the Departments of English, History, International Studies, Languages & Literature, Linguistics, Philosophy, the Asian Studies Program, Middle East Center, and the Bachelor's of University Studies will be seated in Sections K and L; enter in Portal 11.

Doctoral and Master's Degree Candidates: Please go directly to your seats on the lowest (basketball floor) level of the Huntsman Center. Candidates for doctoral degrees will carry hoods over their right arms and will be hooded when the degree is awarded. Candidates for master's degrees will wear their hoods with their gowns.

Guests: Guest seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. Most guests choose to sit in Sections D through J, on the west side of the Huntsman Center. Guests are not allowed to sit in sections designated for graduates. Candidates and guests are requested to remain seated until the entire convocation program is complete.

Photographs: A commercial photographer will be present to photograph all candidates. You will be asked to fill out name cards for the photographer, but you are under no obligation to purchase pictures. Family and friends may take additional photographs as desired.

Cap and Gown Orders: Student graduates can pay for and pick up graduation regalia at the University Bookstore's. Go to University Campus Bookstore for additional information or visit http://www.bookstore.utah.edu/UTAH/SiteText.aspx?id=1061.

Diplomas: Diplomas are mailed to student graduates within three months of graduation.

The University of Utah Commencement ceremony will confer all College degrees en masse (except the Schools of Law and Medicine).

7:50 a.m. Graduates arrive at Huntsman Center (parking lot south of Milton Bennion Hall)

8:20 a.m. Processional begins

9:00 a.m. Commencement ceremony begins

Guests should plan to be seated before 8:30 a.m.
