Events & Lectures

• "Ceremonies" exhibit on the Salt Lake City/Matsumoto, Japan sister city relationship to be on display March 30th through April 8th. The exhibition will be set up in Bailey Gallery of the Architecture Building on the University of Utah campus.

Along with the exhibit, there will be three events:

    Panel: April 3rd, 7:00 PM — "Local perspectives on U.S. / Japan Relations" featuring Raymond Uno, retired judge, Gwen Springmeyer, Sister City volunteer, Haruko Moriyasu, Coordinator, Asian Pacific American Studies, University of Utah, and moderated by prof. Wesley Sasaki-Uemura.

    Lecture: April 8th, 1:30 PM — "Japanese Hands: A Materialist Critique" double projection presentation and lecture by prof. Yoshikuni IGARASHI, Director, East Asian Studies, Vanderbilt University.

"Who Constitutes a Majority? The Dilemma of Democracy in South Asia," the inaugural event of the Democracy in South Asia Project, will be held April 8th in the Tanner Library, 459 CTIHB at the University of Utah.

    3:00 PM — Presentation by Sugata Bose, Gardiner Professor of History and Director, South Asia Initiative, Harvard University.

    4:00 PM — Faculty Panel moderated by prof. Deen Chatterjee (philosopy). Panel participants will include Haimanti Bhattacharya (Economics), Sugata Bose (History, Harvard), Hiram Chodosh (Dean, College of Law), Benjamin Cohen (History), and Chibli Mallat (Law).
