Department of Communication Awards Banquet

The Department of Communication's 54th annual awards banquet was held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Little America Hotel. A reception to honor alumni and student award recipients took place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in the Ballroom Foyer, with the banquet served at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Ballroom.

Three Department of Communication alums received the Alumni Achievement Award: Kevin Bischoff, vice president of business and community relations for BlueCross BlueShield of Utah; Reece Stein, former outdoor sports reporter for KUTV Channel 2; and Nadine Wimmer, news anchor for KSL Channel 5. The 2009 Service to Journalism Award was presented to Paul Rolly, columnist for The Salt Lake Tribune. The Distinguished Service Award, a special acknowledgment for a lifetime of major contributions to Utah and the Intermountain West, was presented to Pamela Atkinson, community advocate.

In his lecture, Dr. Viswanath examined the role of communication in health with a particular focus on communication inequities and health disparities.

Town & Gown Forum

T&G 2009-Public Photo Bank

The University of Utah's Department of Communication’s annual Town and Gown Forum featured Alexis Cairo, this year’s Parry D. Sorensen Distinguished Lecturer, speaking on "Getting Framed: Views from the Newsroom and Boardroom."

 

The annual gathering celebrating the important role of professional communicators in education was held Tuesday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Idaho Ballroom at the Little America Hotel, in downtown Salt Lake City.
