Chapter Sixteen
Telecommunications Regulation: History and Licensing

Our goal for this chapter is to understand the legal basis for regulation of the broadcast industry. We will study the institutions that regulate the broadcast industry and discuss why broadcast outlets have been afforded a lower level of First Amendment protection than print media.

We will also learn about the regulatory powers of the Radio Commission and its successor, the Federal Communications Commission.
