Admissions Information

Applicants for admission to the proposed degree program will be reviewed by an admission committee consisting of regular faculty serving on the Environmental Humanities Steering Committee. The degree requires the successful completion of a baccalaureate degree as a prerequisite for the Masters Degree. Admission requirements will conform to the requirements of the Graduate School, and will be competitive within the pool of applicants each year. The college of Humanities' deadline for applying to the program is February 1, 2010. Unversity of Utah Graduate School Applications are available via the web. 

The interdisciplinary nature of the degree encourages applicants from a wide variety of undergraduate programs, as well as applications from non-traditional and traditionally under-represented groups.

How to Apply

The application process involves the following procedures:

By February 1, The materials listed below should be submitted to the College of Humanities, to the following address:

  • Vita
  • The results of your Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
  • Three letters of recommendation, in conjunction with the Personal Reference Form, for each recommendation
  • A sample of your creative or scholarly writing, such as a term paper
  • A thousand-word statement of your personal and professional goals
  • An official transcript(s) of all previous university or college work
  • Application for financial assistance (This form is necessary ONLY if you desire to apply for a teaching or research assistantship)

  • An application for admission to the University of Utah graduate school
  • The application fee
  • An official transcript(s) of all previous university or college work
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score (if applicable)
  • International Financial Certification Statement (if applicable)

International Students

Interested students who are not United States citizens should read all of the general application instructions above and the material available through this page. It is suggested that International Students apply by November 1st (during the Fall Semester PRIOR TO application to the graduate program) to ensure their application be processed.
