The British Studies Program envisions – as its very centerpiece – an endowed chair named in honor of Gordon B. Hinckley. The distinguished professor chosen for this chair will provide the intellectual and academic leadership for all aspects of the British Studies Program. This professor will be of such stature as to attract other quality faculty as well as brilliant undergraduate and graduate students to the British Studies Program.

The Gordon B. Hinckley Chair will anchor a program in British Studies that will receive international acclaim for its intellectually powerful scholarship and rigorous academic training. Through the efforts of the Hinckley Chair, all national and international institutions of higher learning will come to respect the Gordon B. Hinckley British Studies Program for the quality of its graduates, its faculty, and for its research contributions to the field.
