The British Studies Program

The Gordon B. Hinckley Program in British Studies resides in the College of Humanities’ Department of English. It was named in honor of Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a distinguished alumnus of the College of Humanities (B.A. English 1932).

The purpose of the British Studies Program is to provide an extraordinarily high-caliber curriculum for University of Utah students. This curriculum, taught by the leading professors in the field, will combine traditional courses in the major works of English literature with interdisciplinary study of Britain and the former colonies of the British Empire.

The Gordon B. Hinckley Program in British Studies will enable the English Department to attract distinguished scholars and teachers to the University of Utah and to provide scholarships to deserving students. A special component of the British Studies Program that will benefit students enormously is an annual study abroad seminar in England.
