Vision for the Endowment

The Gordon B. Hinckley Endowment for British Studies is currently focused on building an innovative, first-rate undergraduate curriculum for university students. As part of this curriculum, students are already benefiting from scholarships that have been made available, as well as from travel stipends for study abroad opportunities in Great Britain and in countries that were once part of the British Commonwealth.

The College’s vision for the Endowment is that it will continue to grow and will establish, as its very centerpiece, an endowed faculty chair in honor of President Hinckley. The distinguished professor chosen for this chair will provide the intellectual and academic leadership for all aspects of the British Studies Program. (An effort is currently underway to raise funds for the Hinckley Chair.)

As the Endowment grows, so will the British Studies Program. Graduate fellowships will be offered to the most deserving students. Already, a second faculty chair is being planned in order to attract another highly respected professor in British Studies to the University of Utah. The Hinckley Endowment will also enable the College of Humanities to invite visiting professors to campus whose research will engage not only students, but also the community at large. Over time, the Hinckley Endowment will achieve a reputation for organizing world-class academic conferences.

The College of Humanities is proud of this Endowment, we are dedicated to its continual growth, and we are honored that President Hinckley has lent his name to it.
