Interdisciplinary Research Seed Grant Program - 2010 Guidelines
Purpose
The purpose of the Interdisciplinary Research Grant Program, supported by The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies, is to foster new interdisciplinary research collaborations. The goal of this program is to enhance external funding and to inspire collaborative research efforts between colleges. These grants will support interdisciplinary research for collaborative teams (involving at least two colleges) that will result in a proposal for significant external funding.
General Information
Faculty at .5 FTE or above are eligible to apply.
The time period for projects is January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2010.
Research must involve at least two PI’s from two different colleges.
Proposals must be for new interdisciplinary research wherein teams will be enabled to secure preliminary data, proof-of-concept or simulation results.
There must be a clear plan for future external funding, including proposed agencies and programs, and the proposal must clearly demonstrate how the internal funding would significantly enhance the probability of securing a large external award.
A final report, including the final proposal and place(s) of external submission is due July 15, 2011.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted in electronic format via the website. However, if you have trouble with the on-line submission process, electronic proposals can be e-mailed to Lorelei.Sells@utah.edu and must be in PDF format.
Funding
Awards will be between $7,500 and $12,000.
Funds cannot be used for PI salary or course buy-out.
No indirect costs.
Failure to submit a proposal for external funding will necessitate a refund of the award by the PI’s.
Funding will be awarded January 2010.
