William D. Cocorinis Scholarship
| The William D. Cocorinis Scholarship has been established in the Department of Languages and Literature to provide educational assistance through scholarships to deserving students engaged in the study of modern or ancient Greek language, history or culture.
Eligibility: University of Utah students in good standing with an academic emphasis in modern or ancient Greek language, history or culture. Preference will be given first, to students of merit who are engaged in the study of Modern Greek and second, to students of merit who are otherwise engaged in Hellenic Studies.
How to Apply: Send or deliver application form (download or available through department), two letters of recommendation (these may be submitted directly by the writers), and a current university transcript to:

Warren D. Fishburn Jr. Scholarship for Modern Languages
| Open to all full-time (defined as 12 credit hours) resident, junior, senior or graduate students who have attended the University of Utah for at least one year and have declared a major in one of the following modern foreign languages: French, German, Russian, or Spanish.
Eligibility: Recipient must maintain the language major and hold no other scholarships. One year full resident tuition and fees.

Jerry Lodge Scholarship
| The Jerry Lodge Memorial Scholarship has been established to provide scholarships to deserving students in the Department of Languages & Literature majoring in the Classics, which includes the study of Greek language and literature.
Eligibility: University of Utah students in good standing with a major in Classics. Preference will be given to students in Classical Greek and those with financial need.

2009 Jerry Lodge Scholarship Application
Edward Rosenbaum Scholarship
| One-year award for juniors, seniors, or graduate students majoring in German. Amount of the award varies, and is to be applied toward the cost of tuition. Prior or current recipients must reapply.
How to Apply: Submit application (downloadable or available in the Department office) and an unofficial copy of your undergraduate and, where applicable, graduate student transcript(s) and one letter of recommendation from a German professor.
Undergraduate students must obtain the letter from a professor of a 4000-level literature or culture/civilization course, while graduate students must obtain the letter from a professor of one of their graduate-level courses.
Students should also submit a paper written (in German or English) for a 4000- or higher-level German course.

2009 Edward Rosenbaum Scholarship
University of Utah Departmental Scholarships
| The Department of Languages and Literature offers one-year tuition waiver scholarships to outstanding, resident first-year, continuing and transfer students, who have declared and intend to complete a major in the department.
How to Apply: Applicants should obtain the Application for Departmental Scholarships from the department office or download it from the department’s Web site. This application requires that entering first-year students submit a copy of their high school transcripts showing grades through the fall semester of their senior year and three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a foreign language teacher.
Transfer and continuing students are required to submit a copy of the college transcript showing grades through the most recently completed term and three letters of recommendation from university professors, at least two of which must be from language instructors, preferably professors.
Eligablility:To be considered for any University scholarship, you must be admitted as a matriculated (degree-seeking) student. An Application for Undergraduate Admission is included in the University's Application Materials packet, available from:

The Charles Patrick Halliday Scholarship for Benevolence | The Charles Patrick Halliday Scholarship for Benevolence has been established in the Department of Languages & Literature to provide scholarships for students who demonstrate financial need and are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a foreign language. Special consideration will be given to students with special circumstances or from families with special circumstances. Graduate Award • $2,500 award, renewable for a second year ($5,000 total). • May be used in conjunction with a graduate fellowship. Undergraduate Award • Recipient must demonstrate financial need and maintain the language major for the duration of the scholarship. • $2,500 award, renewable for a second year ($5,000 total).
