New Course for Fall 2009! Border Crossings: Performing Cultural Identities in Spanish, Latino and Latin-American arts | Fall 2009⎯CLCS 4975⎯Professor Garcia-Martin,E. ⎯ MW 4:35 - 6:00 p.m, OSH 104 | This course explores a variety of films, performance and dramatic works from the contemporary Spanish, Latino and Latin American
cultural production. The geographic dimensions of border cultures will be explored in a cultural, visual, symbolic and primarily performatic contects. Beyond the visualization and performance of geographic, and cultural divides, this course will also address the board borderlands where culture blend and clash, where peoples resist and embrace the "other." We will examine the works under consideration (which include among many others, productions by Luis Valdez, Nilo Cruz, Guillermo Gomez-Pena, and Ana Diosdado) as possible intercultural sites of migration, heterogenity, hybridity, conflict, and contact.
