News and Announcements
Research Interest Group (RIG) | Please join us for the first meeting of the Tanner Human Rights Center's "Research Interest Group," leading into this year's Tanner Center
conference on "Global Justice: Economic Inequality, Crisis, and the Common Good." Our first meeting is Friday, September 23, from noon to 1:15 pm in the Rasmussen Library,
Orson Spencer Hall room 336. Korkut Erturk (Department of Economics) will discuss his paper on "Governance and Asymmetric Power" (attached). This is meant to be an
informal, accessible discussion highlighting some of the themes of the upcoming conference: economic globalization and its effects on inequality, living standards,
civil society, and human rights. Future meetings will include discussions of work by conference speakers and panelists.
Feel free to bring lunch to go along with the light refreshments that will be provided and, of course, to forward the information to colleagues who might be interested.

Research Workshop | Dear Friends of the Barbara L. and Norman C. Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy:
I am pleased to announce the start of this year's Tanner Human Rights Center Research Workshop.
The purpose of the workshop is to give researchers from across campus, especially (but not exclusively) graduate students, the opportunity
to present their work to an interdisciplinary group of scholars as well as to community members who are interested
in the mission of the Center. I hope you will be able to join us on the 27th for our first workshop of the year.
Please contact Tom Maloney (Maloney@economics.utah.edu) if you are interested
in giving a presentation in the coming months.
