Pedagogy Seminars 2005– 2006
What are they? Pedagogy Seminars aim to introduce graduate students to pedagogical issues facing philosophy instructors. Experienced instructors from the Intermountain West region will lead a discussion on pedagogical technique and on challenges facing philosophy instructors.
What is the purpose of the seminars? The seminars serve two purposes: (1) introduce graduate students to pedagogical issues they will face as instructors and (2) enable graduate students to meet and become acquainted with colleagues working in the Intermountain West region.
Who’s invited? Everyone is invited. The Philosophy Department requires its Teaching Assistants and Research Assistants to attend each session, as a part of requirements for PHIL 7020: Philosophical Traditions. Students from other departments interested in pedagogical issues are welcome to attend and discuss. Knowledge of pedagogical issues is not presupposed; curiosity is.
When are they? Each seminar will occur on Friday afternoons throughout the Fall and Spring semester. The sessions will begin at 3:00pm or 3:30pm, depending on the availability of the speaker and other scheduled events. Check the dates below for each speaker.
Where are they? Each seminar
will take place in the Tanner Library located on the 3rd floor of
Orson Spencer Hall near the Philosophy Department office. For more
information about the location, please contact Lenna Hanson at lenna.hanson@philosophy.utah.edu
or call her at 801/581-8161.
