General Information. The InterMountain West Student Philosophy conference is a three-day event to be held from Thursday February 26th through Saturday February 28th, 2004. The conference will accept papers on any philosophical topic from graduate students and advanced undergraduate students. We encourage submissions in both western and eastern philosophy as well as in both the analytical and continental traditions.

Conference Format. The format of the conference will be symposium-style. Each session will include one presentation, one commentary, and a discussion period.

Paper Submission Policies. Papers should be no longer than 3,000 words. Submissions should include the following information on a separate cover sheet:

[1] Word count;
[2] Presentation title;
[3] Abstract of no more than 100 words;
[4] Author's name;
[5] Academic status (Graduate or undergraduate student);
[6] Institutional affiliation;
[7] Mailing address;
[8] Email address;
[9] Telephone number; and
[10] Areas of philosophical interest.

Paper Submission Procedures. Submissions that fail to include all of the above items will be dismissed. No more than one submission per author will be considered. Authors should email their submission as an attachment in Word, WordPerfect, .pdf, or .dvi format to utahphilgrad@msn.com. Authors are also encouraged to paste a copy of their paper in the body of the email to ensure that we receive your submission.

Undergraduate Paper Submission Requirement. Also, undergraduate students must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with the student's paper. The letter of recommendation should be sent to utahphilgrad@msn.com. In the subject line of the email, the professor should place the student's name who s/he is endorsing.

Submission Due Date. Papers must be received by January 1, 2004. Papers will be reviewed by the Conference Committee. Notification of acceptance will be emailed January 23, 2004. Authors accepted for presentation shall be expected to comment on another paper unless otherwise arranged with the Conference Committee.

Commentators. Those interested only in commenting on a paper should send an email with their name, institutional affiliation, academic status, and areas of philosophic interest to utahphilgrad@msn.com by January 13, 2004.

Registration Fee. Conferees will be required to pay a $20.00 registration fee. Registration fee covers Thursday evening reception with keynote speaker and conference dinner.

Special Events. There will be a reception Thursday evening following the keynote speaker's address. The reception will be held at the Humanities House (located on campus). Also, there will be a conference dinner Saturday evening following the conclusion of the conference sessions. The cost of the conference dinner and reception is included in registration fee. All conferees are welcome to attend.

Scholarships. The conference committee would like to offer two scholarships to offset travel expenses for an outstanding submission by a graduate student and an undergraduate student. The conference committee will review those papers submitted and accepted for presentation, choose the best paper from a graduate student and an undergraduate student, and award a scholarship to those students.
