APPLIED ETHICS
AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF UTAH

Addressing ethical issues in business, politics and professional life

Professionals in business, politics and disciplines such as law, medicine, engineering, social work, journalism, education and the ministry confront ethical issues in their daily work. But while an understanding of ethics has become an integral aspect of the training expected of professionals, academics, and leaders, it is not always delivered as part of their formal education.

The Philosophy Department's rigorous graduate program emphasis in applied ethics is designed to prepare practitioners and academicians for decision making in ethics. The M.A. program serves students pursuing professional careers and may be combined with study for advanced degrees such as the M.B.A., J.D., M.D., etc. It also equips students for further work in philosophy. The Ph.D. program is intended for those who will teach or do research in applied ethics.
