Why am I ineligible to register for a writing course?
Entering students are placed into lower-division courses, WRTG 1010 or WRTG 2010 according to their Admissions Index, which is based on ACT scores and high school GPA. Students with an index of 100 and below are placed in WRTG 1010; those with an index of 101 and above are placed in WRTG 2010.
Transfer students and non-traditional students who enter without an Admissions Index, unless they have cleared the lower-division writing requirement through work at another college or university, must write a placement essay in order to become eligible for one of the lower-division writing courses. Students who wish to challenge their Admissions Index placement may also write the essay.

How do I get a withheld class number for one of the 2010 writing classes?
If the class number for a WRTG 2010 class is withheld, it means the class is for LEAP students only. The LEAP program is for incoming freshmen. Contact Undergraduate Studies for more information regarding the LEAP program.

How do I get a permission code?
The "permission code required" message means the section is full. Continue to check seating availability by clicking on the catalog number or the seating availability link near the bottom of the class schedule. If a space opens, you will be able to register without a permission code up through the end of the first week of the semester. Check the Academic Calendar for current dates.
Beginning the second week of the semester, permission codes are required for registration. If the seating availability shows a space in the class you want, you may go to the next class session to ask the instructor for a permission code. Permission codes for Uonline classes are obtained through the Writing Program office (581-7090).
Please note, important work takes place during the first week of classes. It is at the instructor's discretion whether to add new students during the second week. They are not obligated to fill a space.
