Dianne Harris Announced as New Dean for the College of Humanities

Dianne HarrisThe College of Humanities is delighted to welcome a new dean, Dianne Harris. Dean Harris will join the college 1 July 2015. She comes to the University of Utah from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she is currently director of the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities, and Professor of Landscape Architecture.

Ruth Watkins, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Utah notes, “We are very pleased to have Dr. Harris join us, and we extend to her and to her family a warm welcome to the University of Utah!"

Dr. Harris earned her Ph.D. In Architectural History from the University of California, Berkeley, and is best known for her scholarly contributions to the study of “race and space” - the relationships between the built environment and the construction of racial and class identifies.

Dean Harris will replace Robert Newman, who has served in the capacity of dean for the past 14 years. Dean Newman is leaving the University of Utah to accept a position as President of the National Humanities Center in North Carolina.
